For centuries, the Arclauds had lived in a gilded cage of chemistry. By dosing themselves with a precise titration of silver salts, garlic extracts, and herbal anticoagulants, they had suppressed the dormant Transylvanian pathogen in their blood. They were the "Cured Counts," living in the outskirts of London at Carfax Hall, masquerading as eccentric aristocrats while the world forgot the name Dracula.

The John Storm Franchise, is a series of original "climate and ocean" awareness stories being developed as graphic novel and screenplay adaptations. This is the 5th iteration of the Vampire theme, with romantic horror overtones, as a distinguished Carpathian scientist sets out to discover why ancient Egyptians believed in life after death. The original Count Dracula was created by the Irish writer Bram Stoker.

FLIGHT FROM THE PEAKS

They reached the battered, diesel Dacia parked in the tree line, their teeth chattering in a chaotic, rhythmic clicking.

"Quick, everyone, get in," John urged, throwing open the doors. He crammed his large frame into the driver's seat and turned the key, half-expecting the freezing Romanian winter to have murdered the battery. With a harsh, metallic rattle, the worn diesel engine chugged to life. John instantly jammed the climate controls to maximum heat and set the system to cabin recirculation.

Captain, you’d better get a move on, Hal’s voice materialized smoothly inside his skull.

Don't tell me we have company, Hal.

Affirmative. Your old chum, Jack Mason, and three high-tier mercenaries are descending the upper ridge.

John shifted into first gear, his brow furrowing. "Jack Mason?" he muttered aloud. "How the hell does he fit into this?"

From the cramped back seat, Earl Arclaud chimed in, his voice tight. "Mason is the broker. He introduced me to the Novus Illuminatum directorate in exchange for a rather exorbitant sum."

"Did he?" John sneered, steering the car onto the main mountain pass. "Selling out to a cult for a paycheck. Classic Mason. But why give chase? He knows I'm enhanced. Does he really want a beating?"

A dull, distant thud vibrated through the chassis, followed by a soft rumble that shook the pine trees above them.

"That will be the laboratory," Klaus von Kolreuter said softly, his eyes reflecting a misty, bittersweet finality. The repository of their dangerous science was gone.

As the cabin temperature climbed past twenty degrees centigrade, the shivering finally stopped. In the middle seat, Professor Van Helsing was breathing more easily. John had carried him despite his protests, and the injection of the Earl’s stabilized silver compound had worked a minor miracle—the waxy, dead look in the Professor's skin was receding.

The mountain roads were an absolute nightmare. The asphalt was a ribbon of black ice and slush, and the rental car didn't have snow chains. John tackled the treacherous hairpin bends as fast as he dared. To their left, the sheer drops of the Transylvanian Alps loomed large—a single overcooked corner would mean a fatal plunge into the abyss.

Behind them, a pair of headlights cut through the dawn mist. Jack Mason was driving a heavy BMW 5 Series equipped with performance snow tires. The BMW was rapid on the straights, but the Dacia possessed a secret weapon: its thin, narrow tires. The smaller contact point meant better pressure on the road, cutting straight through the defrosted slush instead of aquaplaning over it.

John went into Formula 1 mode. His enhanced reflexes allowed for lightning-fast gear shifts and precise, razor-sharp cornering. Mason was a highly trained black ops driver, but he didn't have CRISPR-sharpened synapses. Still, the sheer horsepower of the BMW allowed the rogue agent to claw back the distance as the hours rolled by.

"How far to Port Constanta, Hal?" John asked under his breath.

A good four hours at your current velocity, Captain. Mason is desperate. The Illuminatum wants Van Helsing’s notes, they want the data, and most of all, they want Cleopatra. Jack intends to squeeze every dollar out of this asset.

Seeing a massive, fallen pine tree blocking the shoulder ahead, John’s eyes narrowed. He slammed on the brakes, bringing the Dacia to a screeching halt.

"Right, everyone remain in the warmth," John commanded. "I’m going to simulate a crash. Play dead."

With a grunt of his enhanced strength, John exited the car, positioned his hands beneath the frame, and flipped the Dacia onto its side into a snowbank. He then toggled his chameleon suit, vanishing into the snowy backdrop.

Six interminable minutes later, the BMW skidded to a halt. Jack Mason stepped out, his eyes locked onto the overturned rental. "You two," Mason barked at his henchmen, drawing a sidearm. "Check the car out. Be careful."

Two mercenaries advanced cautiously toward the Dacia.

Bam. Bam.

Operating in invisible mode, John delivered two devastating, silent strikes to their jaws. The men collapsed instantly into the snow. Because the cloak absorbed and redirected light, the violence looked like a magic trick.

"They must have been shot!" Mason yelled to his front-seat passenger, his paranoia flaring. "But I didn't hear a silencer!"

In the blink of an eye, the passenger-side door of the BMW was ripped off its hinges. The remaining henchman was hauled out into the cold air and knocked unconscious before his boots even hit the ground.

Jack Mason panicked. To him, it felt like being hunted by the Abominable Snowman. He scrambled to open his door, but a cold hand grabbed his tactical vest and hoisted him out of the vehicle, slamming him hard onto the icy tarmac.

John deactivated the cloak, towering over the CIA black ops agent as he materialized out of the mountain fog. Jack flinched, staring up into the face of his old rival.

"John... I thought that might be you," Jack gasped, his hand twitching near his holster.

"Jack, I’m on a very tight schedule," John said smoothly, reaching down to confiscate Mason's pistol.

John raised his own weapon and precisely put two bullets into the BMW's front tires, followed by a third into the radiator block. Hissing steam erupted into the morning air.

"If you catch up with me again, Jack, I’ll be forced to put you in a hospital bed."

"Okay, okay, John," Mason raised his hands, backing down. "I’m just following orders."

"You remember what happens when someone threatens the Elizabeth Swann?" John asked, dropping his voice into a dangerous register.

Mason’s mind flashed back to a fiery encounter at Guantánamo Bay. He swallowed hard. "I'll stay put, John. Not much I can do with a dead radiator anyway."

"Smart choice. Just the same, I’ll take your comms, and those of your chums." John gathered their satellite phones and threw them into the snowbank.

Flipping the Dacia back onto its wheels with a heave, John got the companions moving again. They made it to Port Constanta in record time as the morning sun finally broke through the coastal fog.

The Elizabeth Swann sat waiting at the pier, her sleek trimaran hulls and lowered, radar-deflecting solar wings gleaming like polished silver in the dawn light. She looked stunning.

"What... what is that magnificent vessel?" Cleopatra exclaimed, her eyes wide with genuine wonder.

The Earl was no less impressed, his aristocratic eyes taking in the cutting-edge naval architecture. "That is our ride, my lady," John said, a proud smile touching his lips. He turned to the back seat. "And for you, Professor, a proper medical bay awaits."

Armand looked toward John, a rare glimpse of hope breaking through his bleak expression. "Next stop, London?"

"London," John confirmed, clapping the Earl on the shoulder. "And don't worry, Armand. This little beauty can do fifty knots on her hydrofoils when we open her up. We'll reach your Countess."

Armand beamed, his heavy heart lifting. "I’d bet my fortune on that."

Beside him, Cleopatra reached out, her fingers sliding into John’s hand. The ancient Queen and the modern Captain stood on the docks, bound by blood and a shared future, as the Swann prepared to fly across the waves.

THE ILLUMINATI

Bavarian secret society founded in 1776, organized like the Freemasons. new order was Bund der Perfektibilisten, or Covenant of Perfectibility (Perfectibilists); he later changed it because it sounded too strange. On 1 May 1776, Weishaupt and four students formed the Perfectibilists, taking the Owl of Minerva as their symbol. The members were to use aliases within the society. Weishaupt became Spartacus. Law students Massenhausen, Bauhof, Merz and Sutor became respectively Ajax, Agathon, Tiberius and Erasmus Roterodamus. Weishaupt later expelled Sutor for indolence. In April 1778, the order became the Illuminatenorden, or Order of Illuminati, after Weishaupt had seriously contemplated the name Bee order.

AGE OF ENLIGHTENMENT

The Age of Enlightenment or the Enlightenment, also known as the Age of Reason, was an intellectual and philosophical movement that occurred in Europe, especially Western Europe, in the 17th and 18th centuries, with global influences and effects. The Enlightenment included a range of ideas centered on the value of human happiness, the pursuit of knowledge obtained by means of reason and the evidence of the senses, and ideals such as natural law, liberty, progress, toleration, fraternity, constitutional government, and separation of church and state.

The Enlightenment was preceded by the Scientific Revolution and the work of Francis Bacon and John Locke, among others. Some date the beginning of the Enlightenment to the publication of René Descartes' Discourse on the Method in 1637, featuring his famous dictum, Cogito, ergo sum ("I think, therefore I am").

NEW WORLD ORDER

The New World Order (NWO) is a conspiracy theory that hypothesizes a secretly emerging totalitarian world government. The common theme in conspiracy theories about a New World Order is that a secretive power elite with a globalist agenda is conspiring to eventually achieve world domination and rule the world through an authoritarian one-world government—which will replace sovereign nation-states—and an all-encompassing propaganda whose ideology hails the establishment of the New World Order as the culmination of history's progress. Many influential historical and contemporary figures have therefore been alleged to be part of a cabal that operates through many front organizations to orchestrate significant political and financial events, ranging from causing systemic crises to pushing through controversial policies, at both national and international levels, as steps in an ongoing plot to achieve world domination.

Before the early 1990s, New World Order conspiracism was limited to two American countercultures, primarily the militantly anti-government right, and secondarily the part of fundamentalist Christianity concerned with the eschatological end-time emergence of the Antichrist.
